Skate

Many local councils like to see special activities around the festive period that make the city centre more lively, especially in the evenings when the shops have closed. Ice skating is often associated with family fun during the winter months. Where an ice rink used to be made by flooding a square with a thin layer of water during a cold spell, nowadays synthetic ice rinks can be constructed by using a floor of solid polymer panels. The materials used are HDPE or  UHMW, both offering a reasonable skating experience. So the weather is no longer a limitation for "winter fun".
